Intermediate Curriculum:

Forehand:

• Semi western grip
• Unit turn preparation
• Set position
• Hitting side around
• Catch finish

Backhand:

• Puzzle piece hands
• Hitting side around
• Finish across chest and over shoulder

Volley:

• Continental grip requirement
• Ready position with racket at nose level
• Non-dominant hand on the neck of the racket
• Racket face freeze at desired destination

Volley Drills:

• One player hitting and the other catching (in continental grip) starting from the doubles alley separation and moving to half court
• Target hitting on court and wall

Serve:

• Continental grip
• Target serving using cones
• Pronation understanding with perfect demonstration on the fence

Court Position:

• Where to stand for volleys and groundstrokes
• Where to recover at the baseline
• Serve and return position

Scoring:

• Understanding of scoring throughout a full game
• Understanding of scoring through a full tiebreak
• When to switch during the game as it relates to the score

Graduation requirements:

• 3 attempts to hit an 8 ball rally with the coach demonstrating the correct grips and recovery
• 5 out of 10 volleys hit in the court with continental grip
• 5 out of 10 serves in the correct service box using continental grip
• SSV score to graduate
• Tournament level SSV and level 7 USTA
